LAKE NALUBALE

There is a deep sadness I feel when I see Lake Nalubale aka Lake Victoria. She is the second largest lake in the world yet her shores are swallowed up by plastic waste , human waste, industrial waste and the infamous weed " the water hyacinth" As a young girl I loved the lake shores. The sound of the waves and the power of their pull was majestic. I always felt at peace when I was at the beach.

Growing up in the 80's was quite amazing. My mother was a business woman and my father a computer engineer they traveled quite a bit. We were financially comfortable. I used to sing along to Micheal Jackson songs as we drove to the beach every second Sunday of the month, I loved family time. One day my mother took me along on one of her business trips to Mombasa. There I met my first love. The Indian Ocean was beautiful. The water was a clear blue and the sand was white. Compared to my Lake Nalubale shores, Mombasa seemed like a safe haven.
