Igniting Culture Through Creative Ownership

"As Simma Africa we were excited when the call by Ignite Culture implemented by HEVA Fund in partnership with British Council Kenya with financial contribution from the European Union and Organization of African Caribbean and Pacific States was announced, because it was tailored to our need as an organisation that is for and led by Creative Artists."

Under the ACP-EU Culture programme (Eastern Africa, Ignite Culture), Simma Africa implemented the Orisha Pride Project. Implemented by HEVA Fund in collaboration with East Africa Arts and British Council.

This project focused on creative and cultural skills building and education programmes, increasing the quality and quantity of creative goods and services made by Refugees, Girls and Young Womxn. Development and launch of digital distribution platforms and programmes.

We purchased an industrial-grade DTF Fabric Printing Machine for textiles production, to increase design ownership, visibility, and market reach for creatives from refugee and marginalised communities.

"Igniting culture and heritage by creating new Afrocentric narratives through textile fabric designs inspired by Yoruba deities."
